Luke Lambert Crudo Shiraz 2016
Luke switched his Crudo Shiraz source from Tibooburra to the Denton Vineyard. The idea is to bottle Crudo as a young, raspingly vibrant wine for an early Spring release, and the granitic Denton outcrop ticks all the boxes, 'It's a warmer site than the Tibooburra vineyard so lends itself more to the fresher, more primary fruit that Crudo needs to be.' Apart from the stylistic difference, the Crudo is crafted in a pretty similar way to the Syrah, but with less whole bunch (20% here) and shorter time on skins, followed by early bottling to deadbolt the wine's animated primary fruit. The result is a red wine as refreshing can be, crammed with cherrystone and summer berry flavours, great energy, an astute nip of food-friendly tannin and impressive persistence.
"Vibrant, fruit-pure and best drunk young with a light chill. Expect dark berries, old spice cupboard and anise scents, while the palate shows dark fruit fleshiness and brisk, refreshing acidity." Mike Bennie, Gourmet Traveller Wine, Jun/Jul 2016
