Navazos Fino Saca de October 2014
Firstly, the raw materials hail from two of Jerez's finest albariza vineyards or pagos; Cartera and Macharnudo Alto, located four kilometres west-northwest of Jerez de la Frontera. The latter site has been coined the 'Montrachet of Jerez' and is also the source of the legendary La Bota de Fino "Macharnudo Alto" solera -whose current release marks the La Bota series' 54th bottling. So it's a wine that derives from two great Palomino vineyards. Then, after an average of five years aging (the legal minimum is two), the wine is bottled in its natural state, en rama, and not subject to the harsh filtering process that has come to hold sway in Sherry. As the notes below make clear, you'll find in each bottle of the Navazos En Rama Fino, the same delicious qualities for which Navazos has become famous - the pungent aromas, depth of flavour, detail and charisma. Of course not the singular personality or level of greatness that you get from the La Bota series wines, but not the price either! Nonetheless, it remains mind-bogglingly good. The purity, freshness, floral aromatics, fruit sweetness and saltiness of this wine need to be tasted to be believed. And it's even better day two. Delicious!
